Three Part Stories

The Three Part Story consists of three hand-drawn greeting card-sized illustrations sent by snail mail every week over three weeks. Create a fictional story or reminisce a memory from your past. Customers are given the option of posting their stories on the Tellinga website. The following are examples of stories written by previous customers:

Customer Description: This is to commemorate a love story for Tim and Sarah, who are welcoming their first child, Dylan in February. How they met: They met through their mutual friend Courtney. Courtney was hanging out at Sarah's house and Sarah and Courtney were bored, so they called Tim to pick them up and take them to movies at the Marquis, i10 and Silber. Tim and Sarah exchanged phone numbers. How Tim asked Sarah to marry him: Tim asked Sarah to marry him.

Customer Description: Joseph is a chef who's preparing produce and pastries for the farmer's market just like any other day. Suddenly the food comes to life in a desperate attempt to disrupt his work and attacks him. Joe turns into an anime-style protagonist and defends himself against the food. In the end, he ends up with a perfect food display to take to market. NOTES: It'd be cool for his mo-hawk to go super saiyan and his chef's knife or whatever tool changes into an over-sized style anime weapon.

Customer Description: Could you put my sister and me in the Netflix show called Stranger Things. Make sure that she is the lead character because this is for her birthday!

Can you make him the captain of the series and make it where he runs through obstacles in his journey before he can celebrate our anniversary in the bridge?

They also stayed one night in a cabin in Iowa, that wasn't so lovely and turned out to not be a cabin at all. A wonderful day was spent brainstorming at the Nearwood Winery, in Knoxville, IA. Their host and hostess, Mike and Joann, gave them a brief lesson on the process of winemaking, took them on a tour of the winery & vineyards, and treated them to lunch. Heidi and Becky enjoyed a bit of Vino, while Libby drank copious cups of hot herbal tea. Over their five days together, Becky, Libby, and Heidi worked, learned from one another, ate loads of great food, and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed. They are Three Amigos - Three Peas in a Pod - Three Wise Woman - and sometimes when they are together it can be a bit of a Three Ring Circus!

Customer Description: I’m using Tellinga for an anniversary gift. My boyfriend Casey and I are celebrating one year together. He works in video games so I’d love a story that incorporates something pertaining to games. One of my favorite memories was taking a camping trip with our friends and learning about spiders with our park ranger at lake mineral wells state park. He was so excited while I was intrigued but afraid. We’re moving to California this summer for his new job and he’s assured me he will protect me from all of the spiders!

Customer Description: My husband Chuck is a very fit soon to be 61 years old. He is an avid helicopter pilot, private airplane pilot, scuba diver, hiker, photographer, and engineer. His favorite character is Dirk Pitt from the Clive Cussler novels. While reading one of the novels, he finds himself in various adventures along side Dirk Pitt.

Customer Description: Two high school seniors flirt with each other during a play about Christopher Columbus. *He is Columbus, she is double cast as an asylum inmate and a mermaid). Later that night they share their first kiss sitting on a dock overlooking Clear Lake (Houston) after seeing a magical shooting star. 5 years later, they are married. 25 years later, married for 20+ years with two awesome children, they celebrate the 25th anniversary of that first kiss - December 3, 1994.

Customer Description: Me and my boyfriend were together for 5 years and living together. Then we moved apart with the hopes of being able to save for our own home, however, the distance ended up breaking us apart. We've recently started being in contact again via letters and are hopeful of reuniting again in the future and growing old together. This will be for his birthday and thought it'll be a fitting thoughtful gift and to keep in line with our old school way of communicating via letters. He loves anime, his name's Ralston and mine's Hilary if it will help the story be more personalized. I would like some narration to the story so that the recipient can understand the story better.

Customer Description: One time, mom and daughter one time go on vacations.

Customer Description: Two brothers, ages 11 and 9, names Alex and Anthony. They’re both pretty good in math, but they have some deficiencies. Alex is a little lazy (makes sloppy mistakes), and Anthony likes to use his fingers when counting/multiplying (even though he makes A’s in math) - but I tell him to stop (he should know the answer without using his fingers).

I playfully told Alex he can slay math, he can be the Zoro of math. He then elaborated and excitedly said, “I’d have a sword with a pen at the base of the handle!” So maybe the following scenes for 3 different cards.

Title - The Math Heroes 

Card One:  A scene where Alex (in his normal face) and Anthony both encounter a robotic monster trying to enter a vault, and they both have to save the day. Anthony has to use his hands to hold back the monster (thus not able to use his hands, please flatter him with some biceps) while Alex reemerges as Zoro. Anthony estimates the monster weighs 315 pounds plus 37 pounds for the sword he’s yielding. Alex (Zoro) asks Anthony what’s the monsters total weight (which he has to decipher in his head = 352). Alex then chops up the monster in four pieces, and proudly says, “There are four pieces each weighing 88 pounds.” The stand-in victory over the chopped monster.

You can modify if need be, but something along those lines.


Card Two: Alex and Anthony walking by a burning building. An old lady and her dog need to jump. The lady yells/asks Anthony how much weight he can catch, and he says 150 pounds, and she says “I’m 115 and my dog is 34 pounds” … before he can count on his fingers, they both jump! He catches them (with big biceps of course) and says, “You were 1-pound within my range - whew!” She replies, “Thank goodness you did the math in your head, and not with your fingers, or you would have dropped us!” Alex (Zoro) is then seen holding a sword in one hand and a firetruck water hose in the other hand and says, “Considering the size of this building, we have less than 5-minutes to prevent it from spreading to other buildings! Increase water pressure!” The final scene, happy lady and happy dog, with surrounding buildings saved - and Alex and Anthony in victory smile. 


Card Three: Alex and Anthony are surfing. A big whale appears and says, “I like meat on my bones, but you’ll be my appetizer.” (they’re both skinny). Alex says to Anthony, “Hold his mouth open.” Then Alex jumps into the whale's mouth and reemerges as Zoro. Alex asks Anthony, “How many teeth does the whale have?” Anthony replies, “I see about 40 in the upper quadrant, so probably 160!” Alex/Zoro replies, “At two seconds per slice, I need about 5 minutes - keep his mouth open, Anthony!!” The final scene - standing on the toothless whale with boys wrapping their arms around each other in victory! Please emphasize their wavy/curly hair when in normal face. 

Customer Description: I met my husband 19 years ago, and it was love at first sight. We went from homeless to a hotel, to an apartment, then to a house. Brought 4 beautiful children into this world, and there is no end in sight. Life has been an adventure, and we can't wait to see what new adventures await our entire family!

Customer Description: Devyn and I (Austin) have been dating for 10 months now (friends for much longer), but the last few months have been long distance due to my new job as a Middle School teacher in California. Before moving out here, we road-tripped together all the way from my hometown of Cincinnati, OH to Santa Ana, CA. On the way we stopped in Kansas City to eat BBQ together, Denver for a night out on the town, Arches National Park for scenic hikes (pictured), and Las Vegas for some high stakes fun (pictured). It was an amazing and intimate experience before having to start our long-distance relationship (we'll be separated for about 2 years). There were over 30 hours spent holding hands and listening to music in the car while taking in the sites as well. We laughed, cried, sang, and cuddled a lot on that trip.

Customer Description: There was a girl who knew she needed a life change. As a lover of nature, she decided to quit her job and get on a flight to New Zealand. She walked through mountains, explored glowworm caves, found a home in Hobbiton, and drew sketches in lupine fields. She worked as a coffee runner and dishwasher in a cafe in a little town next to the sea and spent her days off climbing the mountain for a view of her new home and the bright blue water surrounding it. Then, she fulfilled a dream by moving to an animal sanctuary, spending her days in the company of goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, dogs, and cats. She met interesting people who expanded her view of the world. There were hard times too, which helped her grow and learn what an independent badass she is. And by the time she was boarding her flight back, she knew she would never be the same again.

Customer Description: Desiree is a very smart and artistic 15 year old. We (memaw & papa) adopted her when she was about 3. We have taken many vacations across the country for her to have new experiences and learn more. She sometimes struggles with her self- esteem. She loves to have fun. Her favorite activities are on the computer and anything artistic. She draws very well for her age. She also loves to watercolor paint. She learned a lot in Spanish and cannot wait to learn more. We live in a small town that limits what is available, but she loves school receiving 1 B and the rest A's last year. We recently took her to Universal Studios so she could visit the Harry Potter section, and she loved it plus has her own wand now. She likes anime.

Customer Description: My name is Iris and my girlfriend's name is Jaymee. I met Jaymee in a psychology class and I was always enamored by her and would always want to talk to her but was too shy. I would look at her during class when she wasn’t looking and I would always be excited to go to the class just to see her. The class ended and I never did get a chance to talk to her because I was too intimidated to talk to her. Until one day, I saw her at school and I always dreamed of taking to her so I went up to her and talked about the class and she was so beautiful just like I remembered. I asked my friends if they knew her and one of them had her Instagram so I messaged her and we started talking. We messaged every day and I would always get so excited when she texted. She asked me out with a handwritten letter and I was so happy. Then we went on dates and the more I got to know her the deeper I fell for her. It’s her birthday so maybe the end can say happy birthday Jaymee, I love you.

Customer Description: One day, we were on a trip to visit a beautiful waterfall, when suddenly an evil monkey tried to attack me to steal something (my phone probably)! Luckily my boyfriend and superhero Lim was there to protect me from that monkey, he gives him a bottle of cold tea to drink. Suddenly the monkey didn't want to attack us anymore and started drinking from the bottle. My boyfriend saved me and we were both happy :D - I'm having a long-distance relationship with him (Lim lives in Indonesia, I (Paulien) live in Belgium), we love to call each other by each others name or we call each other 'sweetheart'. I'm adding some photos of the day this happened.

Customer Description: I like the one about Ema the Princess you have for your one week example. I met a woman, Moon who is very independent, and smart, intelligent, a real rennasance woman making her way through life. We met and clicked. I am Jim.

Customer Description: Please tell the story of how Mrs. Charis and Elliot became BFFs. Learning is a life long process and we should invite learners of all ages to participate in learning activities. Elliot is a 2nd grader and is 8 years old. Mrs. Charis has been a teacher for over 50 years. The seed of their friendship started when Mrs. Charis taught Elliot Sunday School at church. On Thursday mornings Elliot goes Mrs. Charis' house where Mrs. Charis helps Elliot with math, reading, and science. The activities planned are nowhere near as important as the love and bond between the two. The bond they share is a gift. Older individual imprinting on a younger person and a younger person providing comfort to an older person. Some activities they do together after schoolwork are gardening, cooking and going on adventures like out for a burger and shake. They are simply precious together. Customer Description: Hello, my name is Yoon and this story is for a girl I'm seeing (Jiheh). It's not fora any special occasion - I just think it would be a cute and unique gift :) I was referred to by my friend Alex Lee (Rice MBA). I would like the story to be in a B&W manga style. She's really into Asian historical/magical drama (strange, I know). She can be the heroine going on an ancient quest to save a prince (me). She would go on this quest with her magical beast that looks like a Jindo dog named Bella. Her ultimate challenge is to magically and miraculously eat 10,000 dishes of jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), which happens to be her favorite, yet it still presents a challenge. In the end, she prevails. Upon succeeding, she receives a potion. Then she travels back to the prince to feed him the potion. The key is that once the prince (I) recover, my hair is slicked back with short sides, rather than down (see picture). Kinda like how Dragon Ball Z changes hair when they transform... She then falls in love with me. Happy ending! The ending is super weird, but she really wanted my hair to be up with my forehead showing since we met. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks.

Customer Description: This is for a project on Tellinga. We don't need the story sent every other day. can be sent all at once. The sooner the better. Thanks!**** Four Rice Business students were placed in a group together and tasked with creating a marketing plan for a company already in business. While searching for a gift for his girlfriend, Ayo found and recommended we reach out to Tellinga. They spent the semester reading up on marketing frameworks and completing cases to develop their skills. At the end of the semester, they handed in their project to Professor Nell Putnam-Farr. She loved loved the project and all the work they put into it.

Customer Description: My name is Chloe, and my little sister, Jessica enjoys coming to visit me in Seattle during her Christmas break. She lives in Hawaii, so she enjoys seeing the snow here in Washington. This last Christmas she came down to visit and we had so much fun doing lots of touristy things! We saw the Space Needle, Butterfly gardens, and spent a few nights at a cabin in Mount Rainier where it snowed. As all trips evenly end she went back home to Hawaii, but there isn't a day that I don't think of her.

Customer Description: My dad was so happy with the Charles the Rat artwork from my first order that I want to order him 3 more to be sent at the end of the year by the SAME artist (Gozie Okoro). Reminder: My dad used to tell us stories of a naughty, but beloved rat who would cause trouble around the house. In these 3 pieces, please have Charles the Rat celebrating Hanukkah, visiting the ducks at the low water crossing (just like my dad does all the time -- I attached a picture of one that is similar to the one he uses) and celebrating New Year's and ringing in 2020 with a little chaos. Please make my dad the main human character in the pieces. Optional to add my mom in if you want. Attached is a picture of the ducks that my dad visits every few days and feeds duck food. I also attached a picture of my parents. For the Hanukkah card, maybe Charles the Rat has eaten all the latkes my mom just fried in a pan before my dad can have any? Or is playing dreidel with other rats/mice/raccoons/whatever like it's a hot poker game? Have fun with it. Thanks!! He really loved the first one that you sent him.

Customer Description: 1. They meet at their first job out of college working as financial advisors. 2. The first date was at a sushi place called Soma Sushi. She drove a white Audi Q5 SUV and I drove a Silver Lexus IS 250. (if you draw those into the backdrop or something, great! If not, no worries). 3. Some sappy happily ever after ending. (You are welcome to get creative with it!).

Customer Description: Sara and Danny dated in high school, went their separate ways afterward. Overseas for Army, Danny thought of Sara. At Wake Forrest University, Sara thought of Danny. Danny smashed his pickup truck into Sara's red Volkswagen Beetle and he immediately asked her out again. They moved to North Carolina together and got engaged. Wedding soon.

Customer Description: Stephen and I have been married for 21 years. I have nicknamed him Brown Bear, bc he’s fuzzy ;) Went to Memorial High School in Houston together (he’s a year older) but we dated the other’s friends then. I played volleyball and ran track, he played soccer. Reunited at my best friend Markley’s lake house in April Sound on Lake Conroe his senior/my junior college years. I stayed up later than another girlfriend of mine with her eye on him to be alone with him, even though he had peed off the deck onto my volleyball earlier. True love stuff, right? He later conveniently got “left behind” at the restaurant where I waitressed so I drove him home in my Jeep and he made me take a detour to a street with a lake named Shady Grove Lane. Where he kissed me for the first time. Started dating right after in 94, all the way through his law school. Then he took me back to Shady Grove Lane and asked me to marry. At night. We were both trying to see how the ring looked in the headlights. Married in 1997! I had our first boy in 2003. Named him Barrett Lane, partly bc of his dad’s Bear nickname and all, but Lane is my hubby's middle name. Nowadays we call him Big Bear. 6’2” 220 - my baby is humongous. Had our second boy in 2005, Jack Grady, the same middle name as my father. He is themed a Jack Rabbit in our home (fitting, he’s non-stop crazy) but we call him Baby Jack. (Youngest of 4 grandkids, it just stuck). We love our outdoorsy family!! They crack me up and make me nuts every. damn. day. And thank the sweet Baby Jesus I learned to cook, bc for the love of God those boys can EAT!! Oh, and by the way, my hubby's bday is New Year's Eve so he gets screwed outta most of everything except boozy lighting of his favorite Oreo cheesecake he requests I make every year. And every year I forget candles so sparklers come in handy.

Customer Description: My name is Chloe, and my boyfriend Andrew and I love traveling! We have been around the world together. Some of our adventures include Hong Kong, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Texas, Canada and much more! Our favorite trip was our most recent one where we spent a week in Hong Kong. We explored all the new cultures and saw so many things! We visited the Hong Kong Disneyland (where we rode the carousel), saw the skyline, took a ride in the Junk Boat and just had a blast. He is my favorite person in the world and these adventures will always hold a special place in my heart. Next up London!

Customer Description: My husband is a superhero that defeats evil aliens in our park next door!

Customer Description: Three regular kids (siblings) have alternate super hero identities (ala PJ Mask). Eli (oldest) is the Red Lemur, June (middle girl) is the Pink Unicorn, and Henry (youngest) is the Orange Tiger. They fight mess monsters in the playroom, ultimately ending the battle victorious in a clean room.

Customer Description: This is my sister, Beckie (I have called her, "Peach" since we were kids). She's a single mom of 3 girls: Sophie (14), Katie (11), and Fina (6). She's also an elementary school teacher and has been for 19 years. She's like a superhero, because she's overcome so much, and is seriously rocking life for herself and my hyper, goofy, dorky nieces. Beckie and the girls love to dance, watch the Cooking Channel, ski, and travel together.

Customer Description: Cathy is a 60- something beautiful woman with thick gray-blonde hair and a big smile. She may be small in stature, around 120 lbs and 5'5" tall. (See picture. She is on the left) but she has a big big heart. Cathy has a 15-year-old niece, Jonnie Sue, whom she loves very much (Jonnie Sue is on the right). Aunt Cathy likes to take Jonnie Sue shopping for clothes and makeup. Cathy sells fancy houses for Remax in Houston. Cathy is so good at selling fancy houses that her picture has been in the Houston Chronicle. She wore a shirt that looked like the American flag. Cathy's passion though is saving dogs that have been abused and/or abandoned. She has been known to stop on the side of the road and put these poor dogs in her Lexus without a second thought. She is so committed to saving these dogs that she started her own rescue called "Lola's Lucky Day". Cathy fosters many small dogs in her own home till they find forever homes. Cathy and the dogs are very happy.

Customer Description: A deep country guy marries a classy debutante. She slowly classes him up over the course of their relationship. He can’t cook at the beginning, has poor hygiene, etc. He doesn’t understand how someone can spend so much money and time on picture frames. He ends up with a deep love for fixer upper and “French Country Chic”. However, he still doesn’t get picture frames.

Customer Description: Brandon is a national park ranger who loves animals (especially pika and bears), the moon/space, and rock climbing. He's been a ranger at Glacier National Park, Organ Pipe National Monument, and Mt. Rainier. I would like his adventure to take place at Glacier National Park's Cracker Lake, rescuing a tiny pika that is visiting from the moon (so, an alien pika). They hike back down the trail together and battle a nasty wolverine from Jupiter in the forest. In order to return the pika home, Brandon finds the entrance to the moon hidden on the Going to the Sun Road. The entrance turns out to be hidden behind the "weeping wall". The exit is the "Going to the moon Road" which will lead the pika home. After saying goodbye to his new pika friend, Brandon walks further on the deserted road to watch the sun set over Glacier National Park, and turns to see the moonrise, and knows the pika is safe. The park rangers day is complete.

Part 1 Katina, the only daughter of Greek immigrant parents, inherited a completely dilapidated house on the beach on a small Greek island. To reach the house, one had to hike down the side of a steep gravely mountain trail along a goat path, and when she first inherited it, it had no roof, the neighbors were storing their goats in it, it had no electricity or plumbing of any type, and other neighbors had taken over an outdoor closet and turned it into their own home. Part 2 Katina spent the better part of 20 years renovating that home, as a testament to her father's life. She saved every penny, spending her summers on the island to complete it. She carried every tool, every construction material, every single object for that house down the side of the mountain on her back. She battled with contractors, with the weather, with the years, with the neighbors, with the government, and with the sea to finish that home. She put her blood, sweat, and tears into it. Part 3 After 20 years, the home is finally done. You can sit on the balcony, overlooking the water at sunset, and enjoy a glass of Greek wine.
